A fixed weekday route taking students to school in the morning and home in the afternoon. Routes pay $115 to $130 a day depending on mileage. You drive your own seven-passenger vehicle, insurance is covered, and the middle of your day belongs to you.

What you need
You will be driving children, so the screening is tighter than a rideshare app and there is no way around any of it. The good news is that the list is short and you do not need a commercial license, a bus endorsement, or your own insurance policy.
The seven-passenger requirement is firm. So is the model year. If your vehicle does not meet both, we cannot place you on a route no matter how good your record is.
You are not asked to buy a commercial policy. The transportation company carries coverage on the vehicles used on these routes. Confirm the details with us before your first trip.
Where we fit
Getting approved to drive students means assembling a file that satisfies the transportation company and the school it contracts with. Most drivers who try to do it alone stall somewhere in the middle, usually on the clearance card.

Routes pay $115 to $130 per day. It is a flat rate for the route, not an hourly wage — you are paid the same whether the run takes three hours or five. Where a route falls in that range depends on its mileage and how many stops it has, and we will tell you exactly what your route pays on the first call.
No. The transportation company carries commercial coverage on the vehicles used for these routes, which is unusual in this line of work and saves you several thousand dollars a year. Get the certificate confirmed in writing before your first trip — we will walk you through that, and you should never drive students on a personal policy alone.
Yes, apply anyway. The Level One card is issued by the Arizona Department of Public Safety, costs about $67, and usually takes a few weeks once your prints are submitted. It is the longest item on the list, so start it the day you decide you want a route. We will send you the application and the nearest print location.
Yes. Routes are assigned on a one-year contract. Schools and families need the same driver showing up all year, so this is not work you can pick up for a few weeks and drop. If you are not in a position to commit to a full year, please do not apply — we would rather know now.
No. This is independent contractor work. You use your own vehicle, cover your own fuel and maintenance, and pay your own taxes on what you earn. There is no withholding, no health plan, and no paid time off. You will receive a 1099 at the end of the year.
That time is yours. You are not on the clock and you are not required to stay anywhere. Many drivers use the middle of the day for a second job, school, or family.
Students going to and from school, some of them young and some with disabilities. Being on time matters and being patient matters. Younger children may need a booster seat, and you help them in and out safely. If that is not work you want, this is not the right route for you.
